Workshop | Power up your practice

Yoga and strength training have often been regarded as incompatible. However, they have more in common than you may expect. Both yoga and strength training focus on moving with intention and awareness and on deepening your mind-body connection.

Yoga & strength: inextricably connected

Strength is a fundamental part of yoga (chaturanga anyone?), and adding strength training to your yoga routine can be highly beneficial both for your practice and your daily life. Strength training teaches us to activate and engage better and to improve our mind-muscle connection. It can balance out our practice, in which there is no progressive overload in terms of weight, no hinging, no pulling, and a lot of pushing. As such, it helps to prevent injuries and allows us to keep our practice healthy and sustainable in the long term.

The other way around, yoga can be an amazing add-on to your strength training routine. Yoga teaches you how to regulate your nervous system, to control your breath and improve your core engagement. It helps to improve your (body) awareness and interoceptive skills, and it enhances flexibility and mobility.

Long story short, yoga and strength training are not mutually exclusive, but a match made in heaven! Yoga needs strength, strength needs yoga. And that’s exactly what this workshop is about.

Learn the fundamentals of strength & activation

We will be joining forces with our favourite strength expert Mandy Ragetlie from Health and Performance Center Leiden. Together, we’ll explore the basics of strength and activation. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the human body and how it moves, a practical activation routine and a set of basic body weight strength exercises you can do anywhere. Believe us, you don’t want to miss this one! Join us and power up your practice. All levels and all disciplines welcome.
