CRACKING THE CODE OF ASHTANGA YOGA – ONE WEEK INTENSIVE
Date: November Tuesday 18th – Sunday 23rd, 2025
Location: The Flo Studio, Floris Versterlaan 61, Leiden
We are beyond thrilled that our teacher Marque Garaux will be honouring Ashtanga Yoga Leiden with a visit this year.
We love Marque for many reasons, among which his empowering, supportive approach to teaching and assisting, his endless knowledge of embodied anatomy and functional movement, his sense of humour and his incredible generosity and kindness. Not to mention his beard.
Marque will join us for a six days’ program of Mysore and workshops – see below for the full details. Don’t miss your chance to learn from and get inspired by one of the best ashtanga teachers out there. We can’t wait to welcome you.

Program
Get ready for an immersive week of practice and workshops! Throughout the week, Marque will teach five Mysore classes and a primary series led class on Sunday. In the weekend, there will be three workshops that will help you to view and understand the practice from an entirely different lens. We will look with great detail how the practice is structured and how to use the mind and the body to navigate it most effectively.
Friday: Cracking the code of the mind
This session is aimed to help take you off of your mat and into a deep group discussion. We will talk about the nature of the mind, our thoughts, perceptions of good and bad, the seen world around us and how it creates the obstacles that keep us in a comfortable state of delusion.
Saturday: Cracking the code of the body part I
Memorizing anatomical terms is sadly not enough to really understand anatomy. Here we will view the body and its sometimes intelligent and sometimes flawed designs. You will learn how to view, discuss, and move the body in ways that will increase both strength and mobility. This workshop will contain strength and mobility drills that you are encouraged to participate in and also film for later use.
Sunday: Cracking the code of the body part II
This asana clinic will take the larger concepts from part I and will apply them to the asanas and vinyasas of the 1st, 2nd and maybe even 3rd series. In addition to moving our bodies with our own strength, we will also explore how and when to assist and to be assisted.
All levels are welcome! Notebooks or phones for recording are encouraged.

About Marque
Marque Garaux, a US Marine Veteran, long time rock climber and overall outdoor enthusiast, discovered Ashtanga Yoga while seeking different ways to alleviate his lower back pain. After noticing an almost immediate physical change, Marque then slowly began to see other positive changes happening in his life as well. With no Ashtanga teachers in the area, he found himself with no choice but to get up early and go through it at home each day. During this time Marque also attended a 200 hour teacher training and several Ashtanga workshops and intensives to deepen his understanding of this beautiful system.
In the fall of 2014 Marque decided to follow in the footsteps of the teachers that he most respected and applied for study at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). Marque was accepted and spent the first two months of 2015 in Mysore, India learning under the guidance of R. Sharath Jois. Having found a true teacher in Sharath Marque committed himself to yearly return trips and received the blessing as an Authorized Level 2 teacher on December 12th, 2017 during his morning practice. Marque’s admiration and respect for Sharath was so strong that there was no question that these trips were a must in order to continue learning, further building the teacher/student relationship, and deepening the connection to self. In December 2023 and January 2024 Marque spent 2 more unforgettable months in Mysore, sadly just about 9 months before Sharath’s untimely passing.
Marque’s journey with ashtanga yoga will not end here. Rather, the real work of continuing this tradition is truly just beginning. You can find Marque teaching workshops throughout the US and Europe as well as online and some small classes in the woods in Northeast Ohio.
